Where to Start on SVSLearn

In the SVSLearn.com Forum (Forum.SVSLearn.com), the question is often asked of where to start and how to progress through all of the courses. Jake Parker responded recently to this question and gave the following list (his #1 is exactly where I’ve told everyone to go first) and said: “Future versions of SVS will have course paths for artists to take depending on if they want to get into illustration, children’s books, concept art, storyboarding, comics, etc. But for now this list below should get you going in the right direction:

PHASE 1: Fundamentals

PHASE 2: Learning Digital

PHASE 3: Color 

  1. WORKING WITH COLOR
  2. PAINTING COLOR AND LIGHT
  3. PAINTING IN PHOTOSHOP

PHASE 4: Characters 

  1. DRAWING HEROES AND SIDEKICKS
  2. DRAWING ANIMALS
  3. DRAWING VILLAINS AND MONSTERS
  4. POSING CHARACTERS – CHILDREN’S BOOK EDITION
  5. STYLIZING HUMAN CHARACTERS
  6. BREATHING LIFE INTO YOUR CHARACTER DESIGNS

PHASE 5: Illustration 

  1. CREATIVE ENVIRONMENT DESIGN
  2. VISUAL STORYTELLING TECHNIQUES
  3. MIXED MEDIA-WATERCOLOR AND DIGITAL
  4. LUMINOUS LIGHTING IN MIXED MEDIA
  5. ILLUSTRATING CHILDREN’S BOOKS PART1
